Semi-cool trail and OC fortune

OK, so I guess I am going to try and do this whole blogging thing just to keep me updated on my journaling because I haven’t been doing too good on my MacJournal program.

Today I met up with Dan at his house in Mission Viejo to begin our 13.5 mile bike trek through south county to get to Aliso Creek Beach. Dan had looked up the trail online and saw that the Aliso Creek Trail should take us right to the beach. So we set off on our bikes with our trunks and towels and told Walter to meet us there in a hour or so.

After a few minutes on the trail, Dan had come up with the idea to strap his portable speakers to his bike rack and connect his 60gb iPod to it so that we could both cruise along and listen to music without having to have earphones in. It was a pretty good set up although it was easier to hear when we were on the trail then on surface streets…but I’ll get to that in a bit. He started us off with some Helio Sequence to get us going. It was surprisingly perfect music to bike to. Eventually we heard The Go Find’s “Miami” which was also pleasant biking music.

The trail took us through the Lake Forest Golf Course and pass my high school, ANHS. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of the environment up until the point where we realized the trail did not in fact connect down to the beach that we intended to go to so we had to turn around and take Alicia to Crown Valley to PCH to get to our final destination. There’s nothing quite like biking down a street with no bike lane wearing no helmet. Once we got to the beach, it smelt like ass and was all shore break. It was still nice down by the beach even though it was relatively worthless to anyone who values their health. We played cribbage and watched a chubby kid make numerous unsuccessful attempts to skim board like a champ. Watching him take headers into the sand as the waves crashed on him was surprisingly rewarding. Eventually we left and Walter was nice enough to give us a ride back to his place so we wouldn’t have to bike back the whole way.

We hung out there for a while and then went to dinner at STIX in Laguna Niguel. It was empty as usual. Our server had the personality of a drop of piss. I think after all four of us proceeded to order waters at the beginning of the meal he immediately thought that he wasn’t going to get a good tip so why work hard for it. There’s nothing quite like a self-fullfilling prophecy to make your evening worse than it started. We gave him 11% which was nothing but confirmation for his initial assumption. The nice thing about the meal was the sweet fortune that I believe was printed just for Orange County Chinese food restaurants.

Got something to say? Go for it!
