11:40 pm – I am drunk. Mike and I just participated in a sake tasting class which quickly was accompanied by many many beers. Our hostel is rad. They held a sake tasting class tonigh free of charge. I guess every night they have a new class that is free to the peeps that are staying at the hostel. After a long day of riding bikes to temples and walking around Kyoto, Mike and I decided to unwind with a 1000 ml can of Asahi. After that we went to the sake tasting class at our hostel, and then after that we continued to buy can after can of assorted beers out of the vending machine at our hostel. Don`t worry we shared. The Japanese fellow who hosted our evening is uesuki (or something similar to that) but he said his london friends nicknamed him wiskey. I like that name.
I don`t have a good segway for this next statement. sorry.
The funny thing about watching the Olympics on Japanese television is that they add sound effects for the skiing long jump. After they jump off the ramp, there is a whoosh sound effect that they add on the tv that definitely adds to the intensity of the event.
This will be a series of unrelated statments.
We drank beer with a girl who was a spokesgirl for Sapporo beer. She is 19 years old. I think there is something wrong with that. Her birthday is in 6 days though so we let everything slide.
Japanese people don`t use napkins or drying towels in bathrooms. Supposedly they all carry their own hanky in their pockets.
They also don`t believe in perferated toilet paper or two-ply paper.
Kyoto has amazing temples.
It was so nice today, that Mike and I walked around a lot of the time in t-shirts. I love it. It was perfect weather.
Lights out time.

are you gonna go to that ninja resturant?
Hi Derek,
We received your postcard today. We’re happy to hear you’re having a great time. I guess you didn’t need to go on a tour with a guide, it seems like you’re doing okay getting to places you want to see.
Love,
Mom
Hi Derek,
Looks like you are really having fun! Wish we can be there too.

Dad
