Great Memories In Derek’s Life

The years when I was living in Lake Forest with Mikey and Chumps serve as the base for many of my fondest memories. All three of us worked at Ruby's in Laguna Beach along with several other friends who regularly hung out with each other outside of work.

If my memory serves me, our manager at the time, also a good friend, set up a day for a bunch of us to go to Medieval Times. Now that I think about it, I am not entirely sure if it was a work related event or not since there were several people who went that didn't work at Ruby's, including the person who this memory is about: Steve Olsen (I believe that's how you spell his last name; he was always referred to as Steve-O).

For anyone who hasn't had the benefit of experiencing the dinner and tournament extravaganza centered around the alpha male competitions of the Dark Ages all while eating roasted chicken with your fingers and drinking Red Dog Ale out of a metal schooner, I pity your soul. The evening consists of Knights of the Realm jousting to win the approval of the king.

At one point during the show, I believe the knight or some dude involved in the show, ventures out into the crowd, to pick an honorary maiden to go meet the king. The guy walked past our group and selected a nice young girl a few sections away from us. As he is leading the girl (probably 9-12 years of age) to the king, Steve-O, in all his drunken wisdom exclaims, "Bust her hymen!" And while we couldn't believe our ears, we also couldn't stop laughing.

That was a good time. You forgot about the wenches that Mike and I drunkenly picked up on and were supposed to come home with us. Steve Ohh is a god.

    That is awesome
