This past Sunday, I spent a few hours with my uncle Mel at my grandpa’s house as he taught AJ, Morgan, and I a few basics of the art of bonsai. We picked out our small junipers and he showed us how to trim the miniature tree, wire the branches, and how to choose the look of the tree. There was talk of first branch, second branch, and apex. I found that the apex should typically be directly above the base of the tree where it enters the soil. There shouldn’t be any branches on the inside of a curve. I am going back tomorrow to finish my bonsai. Since bonsai, by definition is a tree in a pot, I asked him if the tree on the side of the cliff in Karate Kid II was a bonsai, and he said, “Oh, I know the guy who did the bonsai for that movie.” I still don’t have an answer.

This blog is so effing sexy now. I’m gonna marry it.
